Albariño is one of our primary white wine varietals at Pedernales. Native to Spain and Portugal, we find this varietal does well against the Texas heat and we love the citrusy qualities of the varietal that make it stand out against our Viognier. In this iteration, we have experimented with some oak fermented Albariño and have been quite satisfied with how this full-bodied wine does with this addition. In keeping with our love of crisp whites, the majority of the blend is stainless steel fermented, but we do love the baking spice and vanilla that come through from the barrel.
The 2016 Albariño showcases notes of lemon, applecrisp, pear, ginger and even mango. On the palate, you’ll find the wine to be full-bodied with lemon and almond notes which are complemented by vanilla undertones.
Try pairing it with fried oysters, rosemary chicken, chicken piccatta or dishes that feature apple like "apples on horseback."
