Kuhlken-Osterberg 2016
Kuhlken-Osterberg 2016

Collector’s Label Story from Dr. Julie Kuhlken:

In 2016 we were celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Bell Mountain AVA.  Bell Mountain was the first AVA
designated in the state of Texas and covers over 3000 square acres.  Kuhlken Vineyards is one of the few
wineries growing grapes within this AVA.  In honor of the 30th Anniversary, this is the “Diamond Anniversary”
Collector’s Label.

Tasting Notes
The 2016 KO has beautiful notes of earth and mushroom as well as blackberry jam, dried strawberries, eucalyptus and clove. On the palate, this full-bodied wine delivers dark fruit notes, currants, tar, and spice. Subtle floral components shine through this wine that is unlike any other in our portfolio.
Production Notes
Composition: 66% Touriga Nacional, 17% Graciano, 8% Tinta Amarela, 8% Tinta Cão
Winemaker Notes
In 2007, we planted Touriga Nacional, as well as Tinta Cão and Tinta Amarela in our estate vineyard with the hopes of having these beautiful Portuguese varieties contribute to our port program. These varieties are unlike any other - all at once they are earthy, rich with dark fruit flavors, tannic and fierce, yet have some of the most beautiful floral aromas of any red wine. The locals of the Douro Valley described these grapes best on a recent trip: powerful yet elegant. Our 2016 KO blends in another high-quality varietal, Graciano, which we found softens the tannin and contributes more subtly in spice and red fruit flavors.
Food Pairing Notes
A fine steak, braised lamb ribs, and roast beef.
