This is our second time making a “Joven” style Tempranillo. Joven means “young” in Spanish, and in Spain this means a young and early release of Tempranillo. We were inspired by a trip to Spain where we were served a 2018 Joven Tempranillo that was just amazing. It was somewhere between a Beaujolais Nouveau and a Tempranillo. I loved it and desperately wanted to make one ourselves. This wine is 100% Daniel Vineyard Tempranillo. These vines are on the younger side which make them a good candidate for an early release wine. We delayed fermentation on this lot (it was bin fermented) and coinoculated for malolactic fermentation to maintain fruit. It was barreled to both neutral barrels and second use French oak and aged on lees.
