2020 Texas High Plains Malbec
2020 Texas High Plains Malbec

Because of it’s fame in Argentina, many people seem to forget that Malbec isn’t actually a South American grape. It’s a French variety, known in Bordeaux and also in Cahors. In Texas, it is stylistically closer to that of a Cahors Malbec and has little in common with the high alcohol, big bodied wines coming out of South America. That being said, it is an interesting and also fickle grape to grow here. The 2020 vintage was quite nice and the drought was a positive in that without the rain, this thin skinned grape was able to ripen very well. We blended with some Tempranillo to add some structure and tannin and are really happy with this wine

Tasting Notes
The nose on the Malbec is rich with blackberry, plum, forest floor, tobacco, with hints of smoke and floral notes. The palate is medium to medium plus in body and fruity with a velvety mouthfeel and cocoa on the finish. We recommend drinking now through 2025.
