This is the first vintage of the Lyla. It was lovingly named after our Winemaker’s late dog who was a rescued Shar Pei from the Austin Animal Shelter. One of the shelter staff had humorously noted that Lyla used her “womanly right to be discerning” with new foods and friends. In her spirit, much care was taken to en-sure this wine would be as beautiful, unfailing, and complex as she was.
The blend is varietally Vermentino, which saw heavy lees stirring in tank for several months following fermentation. We then blended in two barrels of Viognier from two different vineyards. 12% was in neutral oak, while 12% was in a beautiful new French Oak barrel from Dargaud and Jaegle Coopers.
