2016 Texas Hill Country Tempranillo

Texas Hill Country Tempranillo 2016 truly showcases Texas terroir. This Tempranillo is distinctly different from a High Plains Tempranillo and showcases earthier and woody tones. A side by side can be impressive!  In addition to drawing from the family vineyard, Kuhlken Vineyards, this vintage also highlights some local Hill Country growers we have known for years. The Speier’s focus primarily on Tempranillo in their family vineyard and it is one of the most me-ticulously cared for vineyards around. Everything is managed by hand – in fact you can barely fit a tractor in the vineyard.

Notes of red cherry, leather, spice and tobacco on the nose are followed by a juicy mouthfeel and balanced acidity. We love this versatile wine with Spanish cheeses such as Manchego and is a great wine for pork or vegetarian dishes.

Wine Profile

This lighter-bodied Tempranillo shows notes of red cherry, leather, spice and tobacco on the nose. Oak notes are also quite expressive on this wine with hints of vanilla, clove, and coconut. Tart cherry, thyme and sage are prominent on the palate and are completed by soft tannins.

One of our favorite things about making a Hill Country designated Tempranillo is the opportunity to truly showcase Texas terroir.
