2012 George Bush 25th Anniversary Reserve
Library Wine Release

The George Bush Tempranillo Reserve is a one-time special vintage to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of George H. W. Bush’s inauguration as the 41st President of the United States.  We are honored to work with the President and his Library Foundation which benefits students at the Texas A&M Bush School.  The wine is a unique selection from our premier Texas Tempranillo plantings.  The nose includes notes of cherry, blackberry, and almond along with hints of dark chocolate.  The finish is rich and balanced.

Vineyard Notes
The grapes for the 2012 George Bush Reserve were sourced from the Kuhlken Vineyard of the Texas Hill Country as well as the Bingham Vineyards of the Texas High Plains. Both of these vineyards has established itself as a premier Texas vineyard and a key component of our Reserve Tempranillo program.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes were hand-harvested in the early morning and then underwent a thorough hand-sorting upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in small open-top bins ensuring excellent control over each fermentation batch. Throughout fermentation, the must was carefully monitored with our winemaker performing hand punch-downs multiple times per day. Pressing was done in small batches using a basket press applying only gentle pressure. The wine was then aged for 12 months in American oak barrels with medium toast from Kelvin and Mistral cooperages. In accordance with our philosophy of minimal intervention, the wine saw very gentle handling using gravity flow wherever possible and underwent only minimal fining and filtering before bottling in late-2013.
Other Notes
The 2012 vintage saw partial relief from the drought of 2011, but still drier and hotter than normal conditions. Yields were good, but conditions also contributed to a healthy degree of vine stress. The result was intense varietal aromas and balanced yields.
