Tasting Notes
With nine years of age, this wine currently shows characteristic mature nose of cedar, leather, dried cherries, prunes, raspberry jam, and toasted almonds. On the palate one gets dried fruits, bay leaf and dusty minerality. Coating tannins are well-balanced with good acidity and a long finish of cherry liquorice.
Vineyard Notes
Newsom vineyard is famous for its meticulous management of its select varietals. Known for its Bordeaux reds as well as Tempranillo, Newsom has lead the way in producing many of the grapes that have highlighted Texas’s finest wines. Located in Plains Texas, the vineyard sits just under 4,000 feet above sea level and enjoys cool evenings through most nights even in the height of summer. Vigor is controlled by limestone below the rich High Plains top soil that helps to create an ideal balance.
Winemaker Notes
The 2011 vintage is our first Newsom Vineyard appellation wine. This first release is a traditional Bordeaux style blend building on the old Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the North block of the Newsom Vineyard.
