The bouquet on the 2015 KO is expressively herbal with notes of eucalyptus and dried oregano. Blackberries, black cherries, gravel and leather are complemented by leather and a stony minerality. This full bodied wine has rich notes of blackberry, cherry, and tar with a long finish and lingering tannin and acid which make it excellent for food pairings and aging.
Composition: 40% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Amarela, 20% Tinta Cão, 20% Malbec
Malbec is a variety here in Texas that has winemakers on the edge of their seats. When all is right, this grape can make for an earthy wine with ripe fruit flavors and is unlike any other. That being said, it is also a finicky variety that has thin skins and ripens late, making it susceptible to damage by late season rains. 2015, was undeniably a Malbec year, and we set aside some of the Newsom Malbec specifically for this vintage of KO.
