KUHLKEN-OSTERBERG 2014
KUHLKEN-OSTERBERG 2014

Collector’s Label Story from Dr. Julie Kuhlken:

In 2014 the grapevines were still recovering from the difficult 2013 vintage and the flavors were very restrained.  The wines from the 2014 vintage therefore took a long time to open up and show their full elegance.  To reflect the vintage and color scheme, we have titled this Collector’s Label as “The Little Black Dress.”

Tasting Notes
2014 KO is a beautifully expressive wine both on the palate and in the bouquet. On the nose you’ll get notes of tar, leather, cigar, violets and dried herbs with dried cherries, blackberry and plums. On the palate, this full bodied wine shows red fruit, dried cherries, cranberries, strawberries and leather with a long finish.
Production Notes
Composition: 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Touriga Nacional, 22% Mourvedre, 6% Tinta Amarela, 6% Tinta Cão
Winemaker Notes
The 2014 vintage was one that saw some exceptional Bordeaux fruit. Cabernet can be difficult to ripen, and it is often one of the last things harvested which makes it susceptible to late summer rains which can dilute sugars and phenols in the grapes and cause disease. This growing season was favorable to Cabernet, however, making it a strong backbone for the 2014 KO and a wine that is unlike any other from that vintage or others.
Food Pairing Notes
A fine steak and Cuban cigars.
