Pedernales Cellars

2019 Texas Albarino
2019 Texas Albarino

Albariño has been one of our three major white wine varietals for several years now. In the cellar it is significantly different than the aromatic Viognier or the acid, citrus driven, Vermentino. Albarino can easily have lots of body and has a hint of salinity which makes it unique. With this vintage, we were aiming to take advantage of that salinity and create our version of a “Muscadet Sur Lie.” This meant picking the fruit earlier than normal and allowing for heavy lees stirring for five months time. We also co-fermented with Bingham Viognier to add some floral notes and complexity. This wine takes some time to open up but we think it will age nicely.
