The Newsom Syrah has a complex nose of blackberry, dried currants, dried cranberry, dried sage and bramble which is followed up by subtly smoky and charcoal notes. On the palate, blackberry bramble, tobacco, smoke, dried cherries and herbs dominate. With slightly elevated tannins and acid, you’ll find this wine with a complex and pleasantly long finish.
Elevation: 3800 ft. Soil Type: Red Sandy Loam over Caliche
It is unusual that we feel a Syrah from Texas can stand on it’s own, however this is what makes a vintage that can, all the more exciting. Sourced from Newsom Vineyard, it is the 3,800 foot elevation at this site, combined with the Newsom’s low yield management style that makes this block uniquely suited to be part of our Signature Series. This combination of factors allows for the full development of flavor and intensity that is possible with Syrah. A favorite of Demi’s, she carefully monitored this lot, and following 18 months of aging determined it was ready for bottle.
Food Pairing Notes
Brisket and gamey meats. We also find this Syrah a compliment to sausage and cured meats, as well as pizzas or burgers.
