2016 Kuhlken Vineyards Reserve
2016 Kuhlken Vineyards Reserve

The Kuhlken Reserve is a wine we make using only fruit from our estate vineyard in Fredericksburg, Texas. Planted by our family in 1995, the estate has grown from 4 to 17 acres and still contains some of the original plantings of Merlot and Cabernet which you will find in this blend. The vineyard is tended to entirely by hand from pruning to harvest, and in 2016 the Kuhlken Tempranillo was produced in the winery manually as well—never seeing a pump. This effort to preserve the delicate fruit of this vintage meant all punch downs were completed manually and even the finished lots were barreled using only gravity. A beautiful vintage in the vineyard and in the bottle, we hope to enjoy the memories of 2016 for years to come.

Tasting Notes
The 2016 Kuhlken Reserve is a rich and complex wine with aromas of crushed mint, cranberries, red cherries, thyme, sage, black pepper and smoke. On the palate you’ll taste juicy strawberries, blackberry, plum, dried herbs, tar, and bramble. Firm but refined tannins linger on a pleasantly long finish; this wine will get better with age. We recommend drinking now through 2025. Decanting may be necessary, as this wine is unfiltered.
