2016 was an exciting year for new varieties in the winery, including the Graciano found in this blend. Graciano is a traditional Spanish blending grape - it is most often used in Tempranillo blends to add a bit of spice and complexity. This is particularly true in Rioja, where it is considered to be a very high quality grape. Like the Spanish, we found a little bit goes a long way with Graciano, but the bright fruit and spice, almost cinnamon notes, in this lot were fun to work with in blending trials. As is the case with many of our reds this year, we opted not to filter to preserve the nuance of this wine. That being said, we expect this wine to develop in the bottle and look forward to seeing it continue to transform.
