2017 Texas Mourvedre
2017 Texas Mourvedre

This is our first varietal Mourvèdre. Generally, the majority of our Mourvèdre is allocated to our GSM blend, but with more growers coming online in the High Plains, we’ve been able to grow this part of our program. It’s a variety you may see lots of in Texas, and for us, this is because it is such a versatile grape that grows very well and is easy to manage.

Portions of this wine were fermented in bin and semicarbonic in that not all of the grapes were crushed prior to fermentation. This technique will give off more fruit esters and complexity through the fermentation. Aging was in a combination of new and neutral American oak barrels for 12 months before blending and bottling.

Tasting Notes
We are loving this wine. On the nose you’ll find black cherry, plum, liquorice, as well as some of the typical “meaty” qualities of Mourvèdre like Prosciutto. It’s medium in body, with softer tannins and lovely black fruit, plum, earth and anise notes. Drink now through 2026.
Food Pairing Notes
A great wine for anything pork—chops, dried and cured, or grilled. Also plays well with vegetable dishes, quiche, or charcuterie.
Production
75% Mourvèdre, 10% Alicante Bouschet, 10% Syrah, 5% Malbec
